The Japan Climate Leaders\u2019 Partnership<\/a> (JCLP) handed a proposal to Minister Muto Yoji of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), calling for accelerated GHG emission reductions and an increase in the proportion of renewable energy to halt the climate crisis while maintaining steady growth in the Japanese economy. In formulating the GHG reduction targets and the Strategic Energy Plan, JCLP requests the government to set ambitious targets of \u201creducing GHG emissions by at least 75%\u201d and \u201craising the share of renewable energy to 60% or more in the power supply mix\u201d by 2035 (compared to FY2013).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, JCLP emphasized the critical importance of speeding up the decarbonization process and deploying renewable energy for Japanese companies; otherwise, the Japanese economy would lose its competitiveness, and economic securities would be impaired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
