The session was led by Executive Officers <strong>Akira Nakamura, CFA<\/strong>, and <strong>Takeo Omori, CFA<\/strong>, both graduates of the Minnesota Carlson MBA program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The visit provided students with an opportunity to learn how climate action, long\u2011term corporate value, and responsible investment intersect within Japan\u2019s corporate landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shareholder Engagement and the Role of Investors in Climate Transition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Takeo Omori introduced CAJ\u2019s approach to shareholder engagement, drawing on his experience as a global equity analyst and ESG specialist. Using case studies from Japan\u2019s steel and automotive sectors, he outlined how structured engagement and collaboration with institutional investors can support corporate decarbonization and long\u2011term value creation. Students noted that CAJ\u2019s work demonstrated how\u3000\u201cprototyping and small, intentional actions can create social impact,\u201d aligning closely with the program\u2019s focus on designing meaningful change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wayfinding, Values, and a Career in Global Finance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the engagement discussion, Akira Nakamura shared reflections from his 38\u2011year career in global finance and his transition into climate action and the NGO\/CSO sector. He highlighted the importance of values\u2011based leadership, resilience, and human connection in shaping a purposeful career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student reflections emphasized the impact of these themes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>\u201cFrom CAJ, I learned that as long as you have a dream and a passion, you\u2019ll find happiness.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cHis shift from pursuing a career to seeing the value in people connected directly to our class.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cI was emotionally moved\u2026 His story about 9\/11 and the value of connection, contribution, leadership, and expertise\u2014that is ikigai.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Supporting the Next Generation of Global Leaders<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The students\u2019 feedback indicated that the CAJ visit was one of the most impactful components of their time in Tokyo, offering both professional insight and personal reflection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CAJ remains committed to fostering global dialogue and supporting future leaders who will contribute to a sustainable and decarbonized economy.
