“Transition Planning Symposium” hosed by Accounting for Sustainability (A4S)

On March 17, the Transition Planning Symposium (organized by the UK non-profit Accounting for Sustainability (A4S)) was held in Tokyo, with approximately 50 participants from globally active Japan companies, major asset managers, financial institutions, and auditing firms. Corporate Action Japan (CAJ) cooperated with A4S, the organizer of the event, from the planning stage, and the symposium was attended by Yasunori Takeuchi (CEO / Representative Director) and Mizuki Awano (Engagement Lead).

In the first half, Mr. Satoshi Ikeda (Chief Sustainable Officer, Financial Services Agency) and Dr. Ben Caldecott (Oxford Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment) and Macheal Bushnell (A4S Consultant) gave a presentation on the process of creating an effective Transition Plan and best practices internationally. In the second half, each table discussed the practical challenges of creating a Transition Plan and their solutions, referring to examples of excellent Transition Plan of overseas companies.

In October of this year, A4S will host a Roundtable in Tokyo for key decision-makers, including Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) and Chief Investment Officers (CIOs). In addition, they plan to form an “Early Adopter’s Forum” to provide a place for continuous discussion and peer learning. CAJ will continue to cooperate with A4S activities and contribute to discussions on how companies and investors can work together to develop effective Transition Plans for the transition to net zero.
